Microphone Issues

Select the input you want to use

  1. Click the Apple menu

  2. Click System Preferences

  3. Click Sound

  4. Click Input

  5. Select the device you want to use in the list of sound input devices


Select the output you want to use

  1. Click the Apple menu.

  2. Click System Preferences.

  3. Click Sound.

  4. Click The Output Tab

  5. Select the device you want to use in the list of output devices.


Content & privacy restrictions

  1. Click the apple icon to the top left of your display

  2. Click System Preferences

  3. Click Screen Time

  4. Click Content & Privacy

  5. Click “Turn Off”


Check the microphone permissions

  1. Click the apple icon in the menu and select system preferences

  2. Click Security and Privacy

  3. Click the privacy tab

  4. Click Microphone

  5. Make sure the web browser you are using is check marked


Make sure that input & output are not muted

  1. Click Apple Icon

  2. Click System Preferences

  3. Click the input tab and make sure the mute check box is not checked

  4. Click the output tab and make sure the mute check box is not checked


How to check the output volume slider

  1. Launch System Preferences

  2. Select the Output Tab

  3. Make sure the Output Volume Slider is not turned all the way down


Check the input volume slider

  1. Launch System Preferences

  2. Select the Input Tab

  3. Make sure the Input Volume Slider is not turned all the way down


Check the apple menu bar volume slider

  1. Click the Volume Icon

  2. Make sure the Volume Slider is turned up


Reset core audio process

  1. Open Activity Monitor

  2. Type in the search bar: coreaudiod

  3. Click the Force Quit button to manually kill the process


Headset Issues

Unmute individual speaker

  1. Click inside the speaker’s live view box

  2. Click 'show controls'

  3. Click the volume icon to unmute speaker

This will not unmute the speaker for other attendees


Forget and resync airpods

  1. On your Mac, click the Apple icon in the menu bar and select System Preferences

  2. Click the Bluetooth icon in the preference pane

  3. Right-click your Airpods in the Devices list

  4. Click Remove in the contextual menu that appears

  5. Click Remove again to confirm

  6. Put both AirPods in the charging case and open the lid

  7. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until the status light flashes white

  8. Select your AirPods in the Devices list, then click Connect

Make sure your AirPods are charged.

Turn off Bluetooth on other devices that use your AirPods to avoid resyncing while in session.


Camera Issues

Check The Camera Permissions

  1. Click the apple icon in the menu and select system preferences

  2. Click Security and Privacy

  3. Click the privacy tab

  4. Select camera

  5. Select the checkbox next to an app to allow it to access your camera


Check for apps using the camera simultaneously

  1. Launch Activity Monitor from Applications

  2. Quit all other open apps or utilities that might be using the camera (e.g. Skype, FaceTime, and Photo Booth)

  3. If you’re not sure which applications might be accessing your camera, save your work and close all the open apps to rule everything out


Content & privacy restrictions

  1. Click the apple icon to the top left of your display

  2. Click System Preferences

  3. Click Screen Time

  4. Click Content & Privacy

  5. Click “Turn Off”


Manually kill webcam processes

  1. Launch terminal

  2. Type in the following commands, and then press Enter:

Sudo killall VDCAssistant
Sudo killall AppleCameraAssistant

Ensure external camera is plugged in

  1. Look at the USB port and make sure the camera cable isn’t loose

  2. If your camera is still not being detected switch USB ports


OS Issues

Use software update

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu , then click Software Update to check for updates

  2. If any updates are available, click the Update Now button to install them


Enable screen sharing

  1. Click the apple menu

  2. Click system preferences

  3. Click Security & Privacy

  4. Click Screen Recording

  5. Check the google chrome check box


Reinstall the app you’re trying to use

  1. At the bottom of your computer screen, in your Dock, right-click Chrome

  2. Select Quit

  3. Open Finder

  4. Go to the folder containing the Google Chrome application

  5. Move Google Chrome to the Trash

  6. To remove Chrome from your Mac right-click the Trash icon in your Dock

  7. Then select Empty Trash


Disable any audio or camera Apple extensions

  1. Click the apple icon

  2. Click System Preferences

  3. Click Extensions

  4. Go through all items on the left hand side and disable any extensions that has to do with audio or video


Restart your Mac

  1. Select the Apple icon in the top menu bar

  2. Click Restart


Network Issues

Renew IP address

  1. Select the Apple button and select System Preferences

  2. Select the Network icon under Internet and Network

  3. Select the TCP/IP tab in the Network window

  4. On the right side of the window, you'll see a Renew DHCP Lease button. Select it.

  5. Select OK to exit the Network window


Change DNS Server

  1. Open system preferences

  2. Click Network

  3. Click Advanced

  4. Click the DNS tab

  5. Click the little + sign at the lower left to add a new DNS server

  6. Type in the numbers of a public DNS server (googles: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4)

  7. Click OK

  8. Click Apply


Turn off and on your Wi-Fi

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar

  2. Click “Turn Wi-Fi off”

  3. Click “Turn Wi-Fi on”
